WHISPERED STORIES

“Whispered Stories” continues some of the concepts seen in “First Convergence” and “Hard Sensualism” but incorporates a very personal shift in my perspective, brought on by childbirth. Here the wrapping, introduced in “Hard Sensualism”, takes on new meaning- swaddling a baby, wrapping an awkward body shape, and wrapping wounds that resulted from a difficult labor and delivery. There are also other references to the violence of childbirth, some thinly veiled by their “domestic” titles, such as Planting and Knitting; others incorporate holes and ropey “scars” cut or sewn directly into the linen canvas.
